Alan has been a volunteer with MapAction for 11 years, as well as a Director of the Charity for 4 years.  He has worked on many deployments after disasters including in Dominican Republic, Serbia, Vanuatu, and during the Libyan and Syrian crises.   He leads MapAction's preparedness coordination and helped to establish its Latin American And Caribbean Section at the URISA conference in Bahamas.  In his spare time he has his own consulting firm working on policy, data and technical GIS issues in developing countries.
